Introduction:

Well known to be an ancient and widely popular legend and myth, a vampire is a creature,  portrayed with fangs, that feeds on humans by drinking their blood. For centuries, vampires have appeared in folklore and fiction movies or shows and of many different cultures, especially in Europe, although belief in them has decreased over time.

The belief of a vampire being undead and bringing danger to humanity began in Eastern Europe, around a century ago. Bear in mind that this was not known to Slavic people and wasn’t widely known or spread. The term “vampire”  translates to “ghost monster”, which provides insight into these early beliefs.

They got involved in western history relatively late, and this shift can largely be credited to the effects of war. In 1686, just 6 years before the Salem Witch trials, Germans of the Holy Roman Empire gained control over Hungary, which included a significant Slavic population. During their occupation, Soldiers were introduced to the vampire legend by local peasants. As soldiers shared their experiences, the idea of vampires existing began to spread to more international centers from europe , such as Vienna and Berlin. From this focus, the legend made its way to Paris, then to London, and eventually across the Atlantic to the Americas. This moderate migration of the vampire myth marked a significant transformation as it moved from its geographical roots to a broader, more global narrative.
